University of Tennessee, Knoxville Libraries Signs on to Skilltype

KNOXVILLE, TN, August 23, 2022 – The University of Tennessee, Knoxville Libraries has adopted Skilltype for talent management across their four library systems.

UT Knoxville Libraries is the flagship of the University of Tennessee System. It has partnered with Skilltype because of their commitment to operational excellence. This partnership aligns with its new strategic vision, set to be released in January 2023. The vision focuses on strengthening faculty and staff, developing resources and infrastructure, and enhancing diversity and inclusion.

The Skilltype platform enables UT Knoxville Libraries employees to access thousands of on-demand trainings and presentations. Sourced from trusted conferences, professional associations, and vendors, these resources are invaluable. Moreover, all staff can develop expertise, whether they are working on or off campus, regardless of their rank or role. The platform addresses long-standing DEI issues inherent in traditional professional development models.

“We look forward to working with Skilltype and its great team,” says Steven Smith, Bruce and Nancy Sullivan Dean of Libraries. “We see Skilltype as a critical piece of new and exciting training and development infrastructure, which will strategically augment and extend on our employee development program, ACE.

“This frees up time for managers and supervisors in providing training opportunities for staff members”, says Skilltype founder and CEO Tony Zanders. “Each employee receives personalized training plans, using data to present the right resources to the right staff member at the right time, in alignment with the library’s strategic plan.”

UT Knoxville Libraries is the eighth member of the Association of Research Libraries to adopt the Skilltype platform. As a result, it is the third member from the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries consortium.
