Pratt School of Information First iSchool to Adopt Skilltype

NEW YORK, NY, August 9, 2022 – Pratt Institute School of Information is the first iSchool to adopt talent management platform Skilltype

Pratt will implement Skilltype to provide students with real-world training and development. As a result, this will be part of the School of Information’s degree program in Library and Information Science (MSLIS).

Pratt’s roots trace back to 1890. Because of this, the School of Information has a history of excellence and innovation in library and information science education.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to let our students engage in new types of tools like Skilltype for developing new knowledge and skills that speak to their career goals,” says Dr. Anthony Cocciolo, Dean of the School of Information at Pratt.

Building the Future of Information Professionals

Students will get access to thousands of on-demand library trainings from over 150 library conferences and professional associations. Students can receive personalized training recommendations based on their interests.

“Skilltype customers of all types are of one mind that the future library workforce must have access to real-world career development opportunities,” says Skilltype founder and CEO Tony Zanders. “Exposing our data, content, and tools to the candidates at Pratt marks the beginning of a new chapter both for our company, but more importantly for the next generation of information professionals.”

Students can discover real-world job roles from public, academic, and special libraries. Additionally, they can obtain the corresponding skills and competencies associated with each. Students can connect with libraries on Skilltype by learning more about what skills are important to their organizations.

This partnership marks a new chapter in developing the global library talent pipeline. By exposing students to real-world competencies and organizational skill gaps while in school, employers gain an opportunity. With this in mind, they can start to influence students’ academic direction. This better prepares students for the job market upon graduation.
